Stabilzer Application For

STABILIZED AGGREGATE PATHWAY AND DRIVEWAY INSTALLATION SPECIFICATION FOR HOMEOWNERS

Stabilizer is a non-toxic organic soil additive for decomposed granite or crushed stone surfaces. It is a colorless, odorless concentrated powder that is works like a natural glue. Stabilizer bind and locks aggregate screening to provide a firm natural surface for pathways, trails, and driveways. The finished product is a porous material and aids in managing storm water run-off and also decreased the heat island affect that other paving materials create. Stabilizer does not act directly on larger aggregate or pea gravel. It is recommended to use a ¼” to 3/8” Minus angular aggregate.

When mixed with indigenous crushed stone screenings, Stabilizer creates a natural surface that complements any landscape or garden. Stabilizer is the original and only soil binder available. It is non-staining and not-toxic. It is not harmful to plants, animals or humans. It works in all climatic conditions and is easy to use. Stabilizer can be pre-blended mechanically which is the optimal blending mode and can also be installed by rototilling into existing materials for certain projects as approved by a dealer. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1.Material should be blended in a concrete mixer, bucket blending is not acceptable and rototilling is only acceptable in specific situations.

2. Figure the amount of aggregate that will fit into the mixer and calculate the Stabilizer at 15-lbs of Stabilizer per 2000-lbs of aggregate.

3. Material should be blended dry (water will harden the Stabilizer) and should be mixed for approximately 10 minutes.

4. Make sure your base is stable, water and roll base to make sure it is compacted. Spread the Stabilizer and aggregate mixture to desired depth over the base and level.

5. Water heavily with a hose to ensure that the water goes through the entire depth of the material. The water is most important as it activates the Stabilizer. Test for penetration by random core inspection.

6. Roll and compact within 6 to 48 hours with a 400-lb to 1,000-lb roller. If the surface is flaky or sticks to the roller drum, add more water. If the roller creates a wash-board effect or rills, extra set-up time is necessary.

7. If repairs are necessary, mix the Stabilizer and the crushed stone together in a concrete mixer or equal, adding water as you would to concrete. Wet area and scarify with a steel rake and then ad the mixture, level, and compact.

8. A Stabilized pathway or trail should be designed to shed water off of the sides. Avoid carrying excessive water. Drainpipes, culverts, or trenches may be necessary to divert runoff.

9. Failure to properly mix and water Stabilizer may result in surface shipping, cracking or excessive moisture retention. The dry Stabilizer product can have a similar affect on sensitive individuals as dust, normal dust precautions should be taken. Store in a dry area and avoid mixing, staging, or contact with asphalt. Do not blend or install during a rainfall or when rain is in the immediate forecast.
